American or Foreign

AMERICAN OR FOREIGN

Todayís vehicles, for the most part, are not American or foreign. They are world vehicles, consisting of parts from many countries, and assembled in many countries. Also, most of todayís vehicle manufacturers are either wholly or partially owned by other companies.Fiat owns Chrysler and Jeep.BMW owns Rolls Royce.Volkswagen owns Bently, Audi, and Lamborghini. Some manufacturers buy vehicles from other manufacturers that they do not even have partial ownership of.Toyota and GM have had several joint ventures.Same with Whatever you buy, itís probably foreign to a degree and American to a degree. At this writing, the most American vehicle, ie, the one where the greatest percentage of the dollar you pay goes to Americans, is a Toyota, followed closely by a Honda.

Do not be swayed by flag wavers or German/Japanese mystique. There are generalities to the philosophies of design and manufacture of different countries that can make a difference, but just because it wears a nameplate from, or was manufactured in, one country or another does not mean that it is the best or the worst. It may be for a different purpose, ie, better in a different situation.
