BUYING A CAR IN 2017

(WITHOUT HAVING HEADACHES IN 2018)

SPECIFIC VEHICLE RECOMMENDATIONS - Large SUVs:

These are luxury trucks. Based on the full size pickup trucks from the same manufacturers. Lots of weight, space, and towing capability, but car like ride. Gas mileage is what you would expect of a full size truck that is weighed down with extra glass, seats, and power luxury items (as in, not good). All are V8 engines and can be had with rear or 4 wheel drive (great for snow covered states), but do not take them off road. You might scratch the paint. Most require regular gas.

Toyota Sequoia - Based on the Tundra pickup truck. Toyota Smoothness and most reliability. Resale value is also good. Seating for 7. V8 with rear or 4 wheel drive and three trim levels for different size budgets. Tows up to 10,000 lb.

Toyota Land Cruiser - Not the same vehicle as the Sequoia or the Tundra. Comes in one trim level (full luxury) with the biggest V8 and full time 4 wheel drive only. Very off road capable and very few options. As smooth and reliable as the Sequoia. Seating for 7. Tows 8,500 lb.

Lexus LX - Lexus' big truck based SUV. Of course, it's forte is luxury rather than off road prowess, but it's still a truck with the capabilities and low gas mileage thereof. V8, 4 wheel drive.
